Police Officer Completes Law Studies to Practice in the Eastern Caribbean: A Journey of Dedication and the Power of Education
August 26, 2024 – Kingstown: In a testament to perseverance and the transformative power of education, Devon Bute, Corporal of Police, has successfully completed his studies in law, paving the way for him to practice within the Eastern Caribbean States. Officer Bute, a respected member of the police force, has long been committed to upholding the law. His unwavering commitment to serving the community, coupled with his recent academic achievement, positions him to make a profound contribution to the legal field.
Officer Bute’s journey to becoming a qualified lawyer began with pursuing Paralegal Studies through UWI Global. He furthered his legal knowledge by completing a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill campus, solidifying his foundational understanding of the legal system. His thirst for knowledge and desire to serve his community more effectively drove him to enroll at Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago, where between September 2022 and May 2024, he successfully earned his Legal Education Certificate (LEC).
This accomplishment qualifies him to practice law across the Eastern Caribbean states.
For Officer Bute, education has always been more than just acquiring knowledge—it has been a powerful tool for change. Reflecting on his journey, he notes, “Education has opened doors for me that I never imagined were possible. It has empowered me to not only understand the law but also to apply it in ways that can make a real difference in people’s lives. As a police officer, I saw firsthand the impact of legal knowledge, and now, as a lawyer, I am eager to continue serving my community with a deeper understanding and a stronger commitment to justice, knowing that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”- Philippians 4:13″
